Gor Mahia head coach showers praise on new signing Shariff Musa
23rd February 2024
Musa joined the club from Bidco United during the mid-season window.
- Musa helped Gor Mahia to open an 8-point gap at the summit after providing the assist to the winning goal.
- Since signing for Gor Mahia, the diminutive winger has been a breath of fresh air at the club.
- Gor boss however pointed out areas Musa still needs to make improvements on.
Gor Mahia head coach Jonathan McKinstry has compared his new
signing Shariff Musa to man’s best friend, a dog.
The talented player was signed from Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side Bidco United for an undisclosed fee in the mid-season transfer window and has started his Gor Mahia career on a high, providing an assist in the last FKFPL match which saw the defending champions return to winning ways.
It was that eye-catching display against second-placed Nairobi City Stars that made McKinstry liken him to a dog as he showered praise on the attacking winger.

“Shariff is like a weapon, that dog that just runs for fun. You can put the ball 30 meters in front of Shariff and he would probably get to it before it goes off the line. He is that fast and he has got a really good touch. He can play with his right foot and left,” stated the Northern Irish international.
However, despite praising him, the experienced tactician also revealed some of the things that he needs to improve to become a world-class player.
According to McKinstry, Musa must learn to play well on both sides of the game, offensive and defensive.
“When you are at smaller clubs and you are a winger often you get told to stay high but when you play for K’Ogalo, because teams throw everything at you, you need to get back and do your defensive work. You need to do those 70, 80-meter recovery runs,” he added.

McKinstry further divulged that everyone at the club is helping the player who has previously featured for Kariobangi Sharks to get fitter.
“You saw him come out at about 75 minutes and we are trying to get his fitness higher. He is a fit boy but to play attack and defense the way we need at this club he has to get a little fitter and that is coming every day,” he ended.
Musa is expected to play a part in Gor Mahia’s FKF Cup clash against Denmak FC on Sunday, February 25 with the match scheduled to kick off at 3 pm at the Ukunda Showground.
