Chelsea won the Super Cup on Wednesday night after beating Villarreal 6-5 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw after extra time.
Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was the man of the moment after coming on as a substitute in the 119th minute to save two penalties in the shootout.
Hakim Ziyech gave Chelsea the lead in the first half before his effort was canceled out by a great goal from Gerard Moreno in the 73rd minute.
With six of the previous eight Super Cups having gone to extra-time, it was another reminder for Chelsea that despite their strong start the job was not yet done.
"It was not spontaneous. We talked about it with the goalkeepers when we came and had the first cup game against Barnsley.
"So we had some statistics, we were well prepared, that Kepa is the best in percentage in saving penalties," Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel stated.
The Super Cup is a curtain-raiser for the season that sees the Champions League winner face off against the winners of the UEFA Europa League.
This was Tuchel's second trophy since taking over as Chelsea manager and with the return of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge imminent, the Blues are looking a fit side to challenge for more trophies this season.
The focus now shifts to the UEFA Champions League as both teams await the Aug. 26 draw in Turkey where they will learn which teams are in their respective groups.
