BUNGOMA, Kenya- Bungoma All Stars FC edged Target Driven Brothers FC 1-0 in a Kits For Africa football contest held at Bungoma High School at the weekend.

The solitary goal was scored by Joseph Wekesa who converted a Cyprian Marauni cross in the 38th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead at half time before warding off strong opposition to eventually win the crunch tie.

The two rivals were among the 35 clubs from Bungoma County that received boxes of sports gear donated by SportPesa partner clubs in Europe; Everton FC, Hull City FC, Arsenal FC, Torino FC and Southampton FC to support local teams in the continent.

“We have a pool of talent but we lack funds to help us acquire a good playing ground and comfortable uniforms, we will use the jerseys we have received today in our away fixtures in the league,” Bungoma All Stars Team Manager, Hamisi Mohamed told SportPesa News.

Hamisi is confident that they will eventually emerge winners of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Western Zone Division Two League where they are currently perched in seventh place on 19 points after 14 games.

Bungoma have acquired the services of Augustine Shikuku (midfielder) from Kibabi University, Kevin Situma (defender) from Sangalo Institute and strikers Marauni from Bungoma High School and Elisha Wekesa from Toloso Secondary ahead of the second leg that kicks off next week.

Mohamed is confident that his team that was formed in 2010 with a vision to nurture talent and keep the youth away from crime will eventually scale the ladders to qualify for the SportPesa Premier League (SPL).

“So far we have had a few success stories as you know the likes of John Mark Makwatta, who is currently with Al Nasr FC of Kuwait, honed his skills here.

“Others who were molded here before they were poached by other SPL and National Super League clubs are Antony Mburu (Mt. Kenya FC), Collins Odhiambo (Kakamega Homeboyz FC), George Wanga (Kisumu All Stars) and Kennedy Oduor (Ushuru FC),” Mohamed underscored.

Target FC midfielder, George Musumba admitted that the new kits his FKF Provincial side received really mean a lot to them as they are now sorted in the league.

“We are now inspired to work hard and win our remaining matches,” noted Musumba whose dream is to play for Sofapaka FC in the top tier.

Webuye All Stars captain, Marvin Muhongo and Paul Wanyama of Malaha FC also reiterated Musumba’s sentiments adding that they will utilize the kits during their Provincial and District leagues encounter in that order.
