MACHAKOS, Kenya- George Abege notched a brace to inspire Kariobangi Sharks FC to a storming 3-1 victory over AFC Leopards SC in a feisty SportPesa Premier League (SPL) encounter at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Tuesday.

Duke Abuya scored a third to crown a spirited performance from the Sharks with Whyvonne Isuza cancelling out Abege's opener in the 14th minute for Ingwe's consolation in the first half.

The result left Leopards four-points adrift of second-placed Bandari FC (55) having played a game more than the dockers with Sharks (46) who won their fourth SPL game on the bounce charging up to sixth on the log.

Needing victory to apply pressure on Bandari in the race to finish second, Argentine head coach, Rodolfo Zapata saw his Leopards concede an early opener when Abege rose the highest in the 12th to power a header past his goal keeper, Ezekiel Odera to open the scoring from a Patillah Omotto delivery.

Two minutes later however, Ingwe were level with star midfielder Isuza finding the equaliser after the Sharks defence made a meal of clearing the ball from their area.

Sharks coach William Muluya's otherwise satisfactory afternoon was blighted somewhat in the 22nd minute when his player John Kuol was stretched out with a huge gash following a nasty clash with Ingwe's Gad Matthews with Michael Bodo coming on in his place.

Fruitless corner

Leopards threatened to go in front shortly after the half hour mark when Brian Marita unloaded from range but his effort was deflected agonisingly wide for a fruitless corner.

Isuza had another attempt cleared off the line by Pascal Ogweno as the sides went to the break on level pegging at 1-1.

After the breather, William 'Kanu' Muluya's side came out with more bite and got their second through Abuya who beat Odera from close range in the 52nd when the influencial Abege's shot was parried to his path.

Abege was not to be denied in the 65th when he tucked home a pass from Harrison Mwenda who run almost the entire length of the field to set up his teammate.

SPL action continues on Wednesday with relegation-threatened basement side Thika United FC seeking to register a second win on the trot when they host Tusker FC.

Wounded champions Gor Mahia FC who succumbed to a shock 0-1 loss to Thika welcome traditional rivals Ulinzi Stars FC as Sofapaka FC lock horns with Kakamega Homeboyz FC.
