LIVERPOOL, United Kingdom- Everton FC midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin gave Gor Mahia FC players a pat on the back for their brave display during their significant SportPesa Trophy showdown at Goodison Park on Tuesday night.

K’Ogalo got on the wrong end of a 0-4 defeat as the English Premier League side imposed their class courtesy of goals from Ademola Lookman and Kieran Dowell, who made it 2-0 at the break.

Substitutes Nathan Broadhead and Oumar Niasse got on the score sheet in a late salvo to secure victory for the nine-time English league winners with the former Manchester United FC midfielder hailing their opponents for giving their all.

“It was a good performance by the team but credit to Gor for coming here and taking this golden opportunity by the horns.

“For most part of the game it was 2-0 to us and they conceded two late goals. This is definitely going to be a learning experience for the Kenyan side,” Schneiderlin told SportPesa News.

Everton coach Marco Silva started Colombian defender Yerry Mina, who joined them from FC Barcelona for the first time where he partnered with captain Phil Jagielka at the heart of the defence.

Due to the absence of Rwanda international and top striker, Jacques Tuyisenge Burrundi striker Francis Mustapha stepped in to play up front for Gor and found it hard to get a shot on goal.

Slight misunderstanding

However, in the second half after a slight misunderstanding in the Everton penalty area, Mustapha got the chance to get his side back into the game but sent his effort agonisingly wide.

“The game was tough and despite a slow start, the boys got into the game and I’m proud of them for today’s (Tuesday) performance,” Gor head coach Dylan Kerr stated.

“This is a day that will never be forgotten by the players of fans from all across the world and I’m happy that they got the chance to experience such a magnificent feat,” he added.

The 2018 SportPesa Premier League and SportPesa Cup winners return home on Friday for a short post-season break before re-converging to prepare for the start of the 2018/19 domestic top-flight season that kicks off on December 8.

“We went out there, played our game and were just unlucky that we couldn’t at least a goal to our name.

“The experience was fulfilling and getting to finally play on that pitch was amazing. We live to fight another day,” midfielder Francis Kahata told SportPesa News.
