NAIROBI, Kenya- Mathare United FC remained in charge of the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) standings with a comfortable 2-1 victory over KCB FC on Wednesday afternoon.

Francis Kimanzi’s charges continued their perfect start to the 2018 SPL season courtesy of first half goals from their star performers Cliff Nyakeya and Clifford Alwanga.

KCB got a consolation goal in added time when they were awarded a penalty that Chrispinus Onyango converted, following a nasty challenge on club top scorer Clinton Kisiavuki.

The defeat means that KCB remain in 17th place with only a point to their name, whilst Mathare have 13, only conceding two goals in their opening five games of the season.

Elsewhere, AFC Leopards SC finally got off the mark with their first win of the campaign as they saw off Posta Rangers FC 2-0 at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Captain Robinson Kamura scored twice in the first half for a 2-0 lead that Leopards held on to until the final whistle to lift them further up the table and away from the relegation zone.

Leopards now have four points from their opening five matches and sit in ninth place, while the defeat sees Posta drop to 16th on the SPL table with three points to their name.

Consecutive win

Former Gor Mahia FC striker, Enock Agwanda’s opening goal for Sony Sugar FC in the ninth minute against Kakamega Homeboyz FC got the ball rolling for the Awendo-based side.

Moses Chikati then added a second in the 27th, giving Sony a comfortable 2-0 lead to take into the break.

Peter Thiong’o pulled one back for Homeboyz early in the second half but the away side failed to find an equalizing goal, granting Sony their third consecutive win of the campaign.

Sony climb to fourth in the standings with 10 points, level with third-place Tusker FC who were 2-0 winners on the day against Vihiga United FC.

Elsewhere, Ulinzi Stars FC were stunned by a rejuvenated Nzoia Sugar FC as the soldiers suffered a 2-0 loss to leave them languishing in 13th place with five points.

Hansel Ochieng's first half brace was enough for Nzoia, whose three-match unbeaten streak sees them occupy sixth place with eight points.
