NAIROBI, Kenya- Mathare United FC Kicked off their 2018/2019 SportPesa Premier League (SPL) season in style by beating visiting Chemelil Sugar FC 2-0 at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi on Saturday evening.
Cliff Nyakeya slotted in a rebound to give Mathare a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute after his spot kick was blocked by Chemelil’s custodian Benard Onunga.
Clifford Alwanga doubled the lead to 2-0 in the 13th after he headed in a Kevin Kimani’s cross from the corner.
Nyakeya was at it again three minutes later when he successfully dodged his marker, Vincent Mahiga, to burst through the inside right but his shot went over the bar.
Onunga showed great reflexes on resumption for second half, tipping most shots and crosses send by Nyakeya and Alwanga over the bar.
Kimani was among the three new signings that were lined up by the winners for the match.Others were James Kinyanjui and Arnold Onyango.
