NAIROBI, Kenya- Gor Mahia FC coach Dylan Kerr is eager to end the season with a bang when they face Tusker FC on Sunday despite the terrible condition of the Thika Stadium.

Kerr was speaking to SportPesa News after his side got back to winning ways with a 4-1 demolition of Zoo FC on Thursday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Wesley Onguso, Wellington Ochieng, Jacques Tuyisenge and Bernard Ondiek all got their names on the scoresheet whilst 2017 SportPesa Premier League (SPL) Most Valuable Player, Mike Madoya got the lone goal for the Kericho-based side.

“Sunday is the last day of this crazy season and I have told my players that we have to mark it with nothing less than a victory.

“Thika is the worst stadium I have been to in this country and I hope we never have to play there again,” the 51-year old tactician stated.

Gor Mahia’s top scorer this season, Tuyisenge, has the chance to bag the 2018 SPL Golden Boot Award when they meet the brewers as his goal against Zoo was his 15th of the season.

There are currently three players tied on 15 goals, making the race for the award very intense.

Kariobangi Sharks FC forward Eric Kapaito will battle it out with Tuyisenge on the final SPL match-day as they recently caught up with ex-Nzoia striker Elvis Rupia, who left for greener pastures in Zambia.

Hectic schedule

“Today most of the players were looking to feed Tuyisenge to score. I understand that as a team they would like him to get the Golden Boot award but they didn’t go about it right.

“They tried too hard. When that happens, you tend to forget the plan that was set before the game. I mean, I am very happy with the win but we need a little more professionalism on the pitch,” Kerr underscored.

“Tuyisenge has worked his socks off today, making unnecessary runs searching for the goal and as much as I commend his work ethic, we need to collectively focus on playing our game,” he stressed.

Gor have had a splendid season despite a hectic fixture schedule, losing only four times in the league and securing the title with six games to spare.

The game will be equally as important for Robert Matano’s charges who will be seeking to finish third in the 18-team log.

“The final game of the season is just as important as any other and it will be good for the players to impress as we continue to plan for our huge fixture against Everton in November.

“I’m giving my players three weeks off after the weekend and when they resume, we shall continue preparations for the historic match in England,” Kerr concluded.
