NAIROBI, Kenya- The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has launched investigations into an incident where a supporter said to be a law enforcement officer is accused of pulling out a gun during the domestic top flight tie between Zoo Kericho FC and Bandari FC.

In photos shared online, Bandari official Ken Onyachi is seen restraining the burly man who tried to whip out his pistol in the direction of his player Felly Lumumba after the final whistle of a SportPesa Premier League (SPL) tie at Kericho Green Stadium that ended 1-1.

The agitated supporter who was smartly dressed in a light blue coat and matching shirt with brown slacks is then led away from the players in the incident that happened after the final whistle.

In a statement, KPL that runs the SPL said they would also write to the Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service Joseph Boinnet to probe the matter following claims the culprit is an Administration Police officer attached to the Ainamoi Member of Parliament, Benjamin Lang'at's security detail.

"As we proceed with our review of the circumstances which led to the occurrence of this regrettably sad incident, we assure stakeholders and the general public that we remain steadfast in ensuring safety and security of players, match officials, technical bench officials, and match-going fans during matches played in various venues across the country," KPL underlined in their brief communication to the media on Monday.

"KPL will verify the facts of the incident and apply the relevant rules firmly and fairly in order to preserve the integrity of the game," it added.

Yema Mwana struck the opener for second-placed Bandari (55) in the 22nd minute after a perfect cross from the impressive Abdallah Hassan before the 2017 SPL Most Valuable Player, Mike Madoya, sunk a late equaliser in the 89th for a share of the spoils in a result that left the home side 13th on the log.
