NAIROBI, Kenya- Harambee Stars players are set to benefit from a football clinic to be be conducted by Former Liverpool FC striker, Robbie Fowler,at Camp Toyoyo Grounds in Nairobi on Friday.
The English Premier League (EPL) legend arrived in Kenya on Thursday for a three day visit which will see him share his career experience and business ideas with university students and football players from across the country.
“I am so excited to be visiting the country, I have never been in Kenya before, so I’m really looking forward to that.
“ I know the passion for EPL is magnificent here,I’m hoping to spend some quality time with all the fans,” Fowler underlined when he arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the capital on Thursday morning.
Apart from imparting skills to the national team players, Fowler will host other forums that will also see him engage young players at the Musa Otieno Foundation.
“Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has organised for a few national team players to attend the coaching workshop by Fowler.
“We hope this would be beneficial to them especially now that Kenya is on the verge of qualifying for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon,” FKF Communication Officer, Barry Otieno, underscored.
Otieno also confirmed that the former England forward would be flanked by federation President,Nick Mwendwa, during the clinics.
“Our association with the EPL is one of our most valuable assets and I assure you that it is one of the benefits we will carry on as we transition into the larger Absa group in the next two years.
“If anything, you can expect to see more of these opportunities in the future as we continue to bring possibilities to life,” Barclays Kenya Managing Director, Jeremy Awori , emphasised.
“We are committed to continue supporting the growth and development of the game among young players, cognisant of the role they must play in the creation of the Kenya we all want to see,” Awori added.
Goal-poaching ability
In his hey-day, Fowler was known for being a natural scorer with an instinctive goal-poaching ability.He is best remembered for his time at Liverpool and is the sixth-highest goalscorer in the history of EPL.
He scored 183 goals in total for Liverpool, 128 of which were notched in the EPL.
He earned the nickname "God" from the Anfield crowd, becoming a club legend due to his ruthlessness in front of goal.
He subsequently played for Leeds United and Manchester City, before returning to Liverpool in January 2006.
He was capped for England 26 times, scoring 7 goals. Fowler was included in England's squads for Euro 96, Euro 2000 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup
