NAIROBI, Kenya- Former England and Manchester United FC center back, Rio Ferdinand, will conduct a football clinic at Ruaraka Stadium in Nairobi on Saturday.

The training involving football  basics will be attended by young players from selected four estate clubs that are based in the city.

 “There’s huge English Premier League ( EPL) following in Kenya so I’m happy to be here to promote the game of football,” underlined Ferdinand  who jetted into the country on Thursday night.

The fomer West Ham United FC defender will later join local fans at Uhuru Gardens to watch EPL match pitting Manchester City FC against Everton FC screened live from Etihad Stadium in Manchester.

He will also join the crowd to view  the other encounter pitting  Victor Wanyama’s side,Tottenham Hotspur FC against Burnley FC.

“I feel honoured to be in this country, I  have a role to play which is to inspire football enthusiasts in this region.

“As you know, Kenya is among the top countries in Africa  that have massive EPL following so I’m looking forward to meet the many supporters who watched me on TV playing the game for many years,” he underscored.

Ferdinand will  also meet to give tips to celebrated local referee in the SportPesa Premier League, Tabitha Njoroge, who has shown great passion for the sport in her career as a whistler.

Early in his career, Ferdinand made the bold decision to follow his dreams to become a footballer.Having the courage of his convictions meant he regularly appeared in youth teams with London clubs.

He was just 19 when he earned his first England cap, making him the youngest defender to play for England at the time.

He is one of the most decorated English footballers of all time with 81 England caps and playing in three world cup squads.

During his career at Manchester United , he won six EPL  titles and 14 trophies, including the Champions League.
