NAIROBI, Kenya- A tough battle is looming between relegation-threatened, Green Commandoes FC, as they host league leaders, Western Stima FC, in a National Super League (NSL) match at the Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday.

Commandoes head into the tie on the backdrop of a walkover they picked against Kangemi All Stars FC who failed to honor their midweek fixture that was scheduled at the venue.

“It was great being awarded all the three points without kicking a ball. We managed to climb a spot higher on the log toward our objective which is to finish in top 10,” Commandoes head-coach, Brenden Mwinamo underlined.

The side, majorly composed of Kakamega High School students, are 15th on the log with 31 points after playing a similar number of games.

Mwinamo has warned Stima, who are in the lead with 70 points after 32 games, not to expect an easy ride come Saturday.

“We are at a very crucial stage and we cannot afford to lose matches, so this fixture is equally important to us.

“We had a good training session in the course of the week and every player is focused on the contest. We will stretch beyond our limits to get a victory,”Mwinamo underscored.

Despite signing good players, the tactician has blamed their poor run in the league on lack of sponsorship and tribal politics.

Greener pastures

"The club is being rocked by opinion leaders who want to influence every decision being made by officials.

“Sometimes as a coach, I feel my hands are tied when it comes to decision making,” Mwinamo lamented.

“Lack of financial support also forced some of our key players to look for greener pastures elsewhere, among them our top defender, Cedric Serenge, who joined SportPesa Premier League side, Wazito FC in second leg,” he added.

Stima coach, Paul Ogai, has told Mwinamo to expect fireworks in Kakamega as the power men will be out to widen the seven-point gap they have opened at the top.

“We are not ready to compromise our good run at the top, we are looking forward to a seventh consecutive win on Saturday,” Ogai highlighted.

The tactician is cautious of resurgent KCB (63), who still have a game in hand.

The bankers leapfrogged Nairobi Stima FC in second place after stunning Kenya Police FC 2-1 at Camp Toyoyo Grounds in Nairobi last Sunday.

Things are not rosy for Nairobi Stima (62) who dropped points for the second time in a row after a barren draw against Bidco United FC in Thika last weekend.

There will be eight other NSL matches at various grounds from across the country on the day.
